Day 83: Project #SkinnySkint Part 2: Food Shopping

I tend to shop in supermarkets like Sainsburys and Tescos. My general shop is the same most weeks and isn’t that expensive. What seems to get me is the ‘extras’ that I literally pick up when I’m in store. The nice steak, extra nice veggies, berries etc. Then there’s the couple of bottles of wine for the weekend as of course we don’t really go out that much any more. Nappies… not extortionate but enough to make me go over budget. Recently I must admit I’ve been doing about £130 a week on a shop. So here’s the plan:

  • Overall food shop needs to be £80 a week including any extras we fancy
  • Would like to spend £60 on supermarket staples and £20 going to a market for fresh fruit/veg/meat/fish… this will be the biggest change as will need to find somewhere local to do this
  • Fresh fruit as snacks instead of cereal bars
  • Skinless chicken thighs to substitue breasts from time to time
  • Try to get staple deodorants/body washes etc when on offer

God I sound like a skin flint… I guess I am
