Day 86: Free flights for under 2’s!

And so it is with great sadness that Aunty Anya & Uncle James have left us this morning for the sunnier climes of California. We have been having serious discusions about going to visit them in the US later this year. Rather excitingly by the time they see her again not only will she be a good few months older but hopefully she’ll be getting herself onto solids by then as well. I’d love to say she’ll be walking but that’s highly unlikely. Of course every parent thinks their child will develop faster than other kids.

The good news seems to be that quite a few places don’t charge extra for babies to go on flights as long as the child is under the age of 2. Here are some other interesting facts that can be found on the @VirginAtlantic website. The funniest for me being that as with adults, that your baby also gains from flying upper class!

… Baby-friendly cabin crew will be on hand to help throughout your flight. We offer specially designed in-flight cots, we’ll warm milk for you, and some of our toilets include changing facilities to help you along the your way.

IN ORDER TO FLY: Your baby must be healthy and at least 48 hours old to travel on Virgin Atlantic international routes.

MILK: Cow’s milk, formula and water (to make formula up) are all allowed on the aircraft. They must be in baby bottles or cartons, not bottles from the supermarket or flasks etc. They can be over 100ml, but only up to a reasonable amount that’s necessary for the flight. You will be asked to taste 50% of what’s taken through

IN-FLIGHT COTS: In-flight cots are offered free of charge. Sky cots have to be requested in advance by calling 0844 874 7747. There is a limited number of sky cots offered on a first come first served basis.
