Day 180: Weaning 4

It’s been an interesting journey so far. I think about 2 weeks ago we tried Lo-Lo on baby rice. Note this was after a full feed of breast milk, where normally she would get nothing for another 3 or so hours. The ferocity with which she started eating led me to think she was clearly hungry and would also explain which she was not gaining as much weight as she had previously. Well she polished off about 30ml straight away. After reading up on it a bit more it did say not to feed too much too soon so their organs can start getting used to it all. So we tried 15ml the next time. We’ve now hit an optimum of somewhere between 15 – 30ml. So our menu at the moment includes 2 solid meals a day as she is clearly still hungry and a mixture of solids, normally 1 veg or new food + a staple such as baby rice. She seems much happier. So at just under 6months and at about 8.3kg this is our feeding routine:

  • 7am: Breast milk (both sides)
  • 11.30am: Breast milk (both sides) + 1 veg + 15ml Ready Brek porridge
  • 2.30pm: Breast milk (both sides)… overall a smaller feed
  • 4.15pm: Water or cool rooibos tea
  • 6pm: Breast milk (both sides) + 1 veg + 15ml Ready Brek porridge
  • 7.30pm: 210ml formula

Veg has incuded: avocado, sweet potato, tomato, banana, potato
